My interest in MT began several years ago when I began searching for a career that would be more fulfilling.  I have always been fascinated with medicine; even while obtaining my first degree in Anthropology, I was most fascinated with forensics, diet, disease and linguistics.  I worked my way through college: it took 9 years to obtain my bachelor’s degree, as I had to work full-time while attending school part-time.  I am seeking a program that will allow me to quickly and successfully achieve my goal of becoming a medical transcriptionist.

I am a mother of 3 children, and like many families, we have suffered severe hardship.  My husband’s career is commission based, and therefore, we have some very lean months.  Unfortunately, anthropologists are not in high demand, nor are they well paid.  Although I am a self-taught bookkeeper, I would be forced to commute to find a job; requiring child-care and transportation costs.  I did this for several years before I found that the cost of working away from home consumed most of my salary.

There are several advantages to working as a medical transcriptionist.   Providing quality technical support for health care providers is important, but it is the care of the patient which is most critical.  The providers rely on strong transcriptionists to relate their thoughts to a patient’s notes.   As longevity continues to increase, the provision of quality health care technicians also increases; therefore medical transcription as a career will continue to grow, opening new opportunities every day.  Like most home typist jobs or medical record jobs, my reasons for becoming a medical transcriptionist include my commitment to care, job availability, a flexible schedule, and the desire to make a difference in the life of my family and those of others.

Future MT piqued my curiosity more than the other programs I investigated.  It offers a complete program at a fraction of the cost.  In addition, the ability to apply for a scholarship directly through your program is encouraging.  Having looked at all of the courses and online degree programs available, their course provides everything I need to learn about MT and makes my desire a very realistic goal.  The course is thorough, and includes actual dictation notes for training, which is crucial when learning the combination of new terminology and dialect differences.  In addition, the course is self-paced, which allows me to take the time to thoroughly understand a lesson before I move to the next one.  Your program is by far the ideal course for my education as a medical transcriptionist.  SN:0MA9N2ESY

The goals I wish to achieve as a medical transcriptionist are numerous.  Personally, the ability to learn a new career at my age is rewarding in itself.  I have always wanted to contribute to the medical community and now I have that opportunity. Additionally, I see the field of MT as one of great flexibility.  I know that I have some hard work ahead of me, but within 2 years I plan to have enough experience and credentials to start my own medical transcription business.  Having the drive to achieve and contribute, combined with my previous bookkeeping experience ensures my success.

After looking into medical record jobs, I wanted to become a medical transcriptionist because it would allow me to participate in my two favorite things — words and medicine. I love the medical field. I went to college to become a doctor. However, I was unable to complete that major and ultimately graduated with a degree in criminology. My criminology degree allowed me entrance into the legal field where I discovered my love of words and typing. I have been a legal secretary for 17 years and love word processing and formatting documents. Being a medical transcriptionist gives me the opportunity to be on the inside track of the practice of medicine without actually being a doctor and allows me to work with words and formatting. For me, there are two advantages of working in the medical transcription industry. The first advantage is having the ability to use the skills I have learned in the legal field and apply them to working in the medical field. As a legal secretary I regularly transcribe legal documents and format them to fit court standards. In working as a medical transcriptionist, I will be able to use these same skills that I have honed over the past 17 years. The second advantage of working in the medical transcription industry is the great flexibility. There are many medical transcription at home jobs available. I have the option of continuing in my current career and working in transcription part-time. SN:0MA9N2ESY

After I’ve established myself with my future employer, I can begin transcription on a full-time basis and get rid of my daily 3 hour commute. After I’ve worked in this avenue for a few years, I have the option to open my own transcription company. The major advantage of working in medical transcription is that the sky is the limit as to the avenues available to me. The reason I am interested in training with Future MT is because the curriculum seems just as extensive as the training I received at a medical transcription school 10 years ago. I completed an 18-month program 10 years ago and transcribed authentic doctor-dictated reports. I was taught the different formats for the various types of reports and I was taught punctuation and grammar rules. It was very intense training and I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, by the time I finished the program the school was about to go out of business and was unable to provide me with job placement as they had previously advertised. As I read through the materials regarding the Future MT course, it reminded me of the course I had previously taken. I believe Future MT will provide me with the intense refresher course that I need to begin my career as a medical transcriptionist with the advantage of having student support every step of the way. Initially, I would like to successfully complete the Future MT course and eventually gain employment with a major medical transcription company. I plan to work in this area for a maximum of five years to give myself the opportunity to fully learn this field from all aspects. Ultimately, I would like to open my own medical transcription company in the area where I live. The medical field is continually growing, and I would like to be a part of it.

Speaking with my mother about getting a online typing job, I decided upon becoming a medical transcriptionist. The idea had crossed my mind before, but hearing her speak of all the benefits of the job and the tremendous help you are capable of doing for others really impacted my thoughts on it. I began researching different reports on the internet to better my understanding of the job. Though, strenuous it may be when doing for a long period of time, it is definitely a great public service and really helps the doctors catch a little bit of a break between all the activities they are involved in during their packed work weeks! Becoming a part of the medical field has always been my main dream. My mother, who inspired me to, not only reach for, but to achieve my goals, had a tough life. Without a stable environment to grow up in, she married at a young age and did not complete college and never got a degree in any type of specific field. I have witnessed her struggles through raising my two brothers and myself and going through an ugly (to put it into light terms) divorce. She had to take the rough route and get minimum paying jobs to support our broken family. SN:0MA9N2ESY

My father changed his course in life at the time of their divorce and started a ‘new’ family-leaving my mother and us children to survive on our own. With me being 13-years-old and my brother being just 14, we could not go to work yet to help her pay the bills. We lost our house, our family, our hometown, and all the friends we made through our lives in the town we grew up in while my parents were still together. Seeing is believing. I am a strong believer in working for a living and not having to struggle to just ‘get by’. As I sit here writing this, my mother is still in a bad position in life with my younger brother, now from a new marriage, and her husband who is out of a job. When my parents divorced, my mother, my brother and I had moved to Biloxi, Mississippi to live with relatives until we were able to get an apartment. I am sure you all have heard of the impact Hurricane Katrina had on the lives of those affected. We were there. We lost everything we had ever owned on top of everything else that we had already lost in our lives. This just goes to show that you never know when you are going to have to just pick up and start over. Whether it is family or nature, there is always a way to get off track. With a jobs typing work home, I believe I would be able to always have a plan. The job outline allows for working from home and still making a good living. The comfort of having a steady job that you can always count on would be awesome.
